Geneviève Levivier’s approach combines the sensibilities of a contemporary visual artist with personal innovative technologies. By mixing the artistic gesture, organic materials, pigments and eco-friendly self-invented paint binders and bio-sourced fibres, with sometimes digital process, Levivier defends a creation freely inspired by a mix of textile know-how and pictorial techniques, such as in her "textile stained glass". Playing with light and relief's effects, the rich sensory artistry of her work literally shines through and demonstrates Levivier’s ability to perform a material metamorphosis as living materials (eggshells, flowers, wood) that have lived one life are reborn.
In addition, she always favors a slow and eco-responsible conception, which begins, as for these "Eggshell Alchimie" artworks, by the local collection of eggshells and their transformation in her workshop, before being integrated into her work.
The integration of these raw natural elements - eggshells, flowers, swamp oak... - as source of her creations recalls the intrinsic link between man and nature, and offers a unending contemplative vision, to the exact opposite of the screens and their constant solicitations. Through a meandering alchemy of surprising and poetry materials, openworks and projected shadows, her mix-media pieces, tapestries or textile sculptures constantly reinterpret the symbols of tapestry, embroidery, or lace. Her interest for the textile as a contemporary medium is related to its possibilities of movement, flexibility, interaction with space and light, as well as with the body, touch and sight.
After having created for 10 years, with her studio A+ZDesign®, the most refined and surprising textiles for the most prestigious fashion houses - Dior, Alaïa, Gaultier, Balenciaga... - Geneviève Levivier is nowadays devoted to the creation of her contemporary tapestries and artwork in harmony with a theme or the surrounding architecture, the living nature and the natural light, performing the idea of Synaesthesia.
As such, her work, recognizable at first glance, has received significant international recognition. She’s regularly invited to present solo or group exhibition - Museum of Sculpture of Sao Paulo, Triennale of Milan, Universal Exhibition of Milan, Hong-Kong Design Week, Museum of Design Gent, Swiss and New-York Galleries…
